Our calculators use established veterinary formulas such as the RER (Resting Energy Requirement) formula and WSAVA Body Condition Score standards. These are the same methodologies used in clinical veterinary nutrition practice. However, all formulas have limitations:

• Individual variation: Studies show that individual cats can vary by up to 30% from formula predictions. A calculated daily calorie requirement is a starting point, not a prescription.
• Formula assumptions: Calculators assume average food moisture content and standard body composition. Results may be less accurate for cats with unusual body composition or health conditions.
• Measurement accuracy: Calculator results are only as good as the inputs provided. Inaccurate weight measurements will produce inaccurate results.
